First Start

The "Viewer" should start immediately after the wizard. But you can always restart it from the menu:

Start > BusinessLog

The login asks for user and password (that you have already entered in the wizard) to access the program.

Application startup errors

  • If the login window takes more than 30 seconds to open, it is likely that you have TCP port 13 to the NIST server not enabled.

  • If, at this stage, the system displays a “Corrupted or missing license” error and repeatedly prompts the initial wizard, it means that the machine does not have the required permissions to write a registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KeyBlog]

"MyKeyBlog"="YOUR ASSIGNED ID" (you must enter the UserID assigned to the license)

Settings

When first opening the application, open the [Functions] submenu and click [Settings].
The "Setting" window will appear as follows:

FirstStartEN3.jpg

NOTE:

The [AI Analysis] button allows BusinessLog settings to be analysed using artificial intelligence and highlights any potential issues.

  • XML Secondary Storage

If an encrypted copy of the logs needs to be configured, scroll down to the “XML Secondary Storage” section.

FirtStartEN4.jpg

This window allows you to generate encrypted XML files in the specified folder, ensuring a backup copy of the recorded logs.

Encrypted storage can also be enabled for individual machines and/or on a monthly basis by selecting a valid folder using the appropriate icon (ensure that write permissions are granted).

Si può attivare anche solo una delle due opzioni:

- Nel primo caso verrà generato un file per ciascuna macchina (divisi per anno), ad esempio: PC-MARIO-2022.xml;

- Nel secondo caso verrà creato un file per ciascun mese (es. 12-2022) contenente tutte le macchine di quello specifico periodo.

Either of the two options may be enabled independently.

- In the first case, one file is generated for each machine, organised by year, for example: PC-MARIO-2022.xml

- In the second case, one file is created for each month (for example 12-2022), containing all machines for that specific period.

NOTE: Enabling secondary storage is optional and left to the discretion of the end user.

  • Automatic notifications (mail)

FirstStartEN5.jpg

The mail settings activate the automatic evening notification in which the program sends an email including:

  • Number of recorded logs and number of System Administrator logs

  • Number of failed login attempts

  • Database size

  • Significant variations in log activity for each machine

  • Machines that have not generated logs for more than 10 days

This section allows you to configure a custom object as well as the SMTP parameters used for sending emails.

NOTE: BusinessLog already provides an internal account for email delivery.

SMTP parameters need to be specified only if you wish to customise them or if a proxy server is used, which requires the correct credentials to be provided.
In this case, ensure that port 465 is authorised for connections to the mail.businesslog.cloud server.

  • Network

FirstStartEN6

Specify the type of machine search, eventually write the IP ranges of all your subnets, by pressing the [Edit] button.

It is not recommended to include networks that contain IP telephony or IP video surveillance systems, as these are not subject to log recording.

The “Waiting days” box identifies machines that have not generated logs for X days, despite activity in previous days, and reports them in the machine list and in a summary included in the evening notification email (default value: 10).

Multi-domain mode should be enabled only when two or more domains are present. In this case, PC names are inventoried with their corresponding domain suffix. For example: PC-Mario.domain1.local and PC-Mario.domain2.local.

Start the service

In the “Settings” section, start the service, ensuring that the instructions related to service preparation have been followed correctly.

FirstStartEN7

After the service is started, logs will begin to be collected and displayed in the “Viewer” by clicking [Access Logs] from the “Log Archives” menu.
